From 1 April 2009, Cheshire West and Chester Council is the new Council replacing Chester City Council, Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council, Vale Royal Borough Council and the western part of Cheshire County Council. The pages and documents through this website may contain branding and information relevant to the old councils, but are being made available because they are still relevant to our customers. We are continuing to update all materials on the Cheshire West and Chester website and aim to remove all references to the old Councils by the end of the year (2009).

Contaminated Land

Vale Royal has a legacy of contaminated land and dealing with it needs to be carefully prioritised and managed.

In July 2001 the Council published its Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy. It is due to be reviewed in 2005.  The document sets out the Council's policy for the inspection of land and outlines our priorities. Actions will be taken with land that has been identified as  contaminated (as defined in the Act). These will ensure that the land is cleaned of contamination to a level that is suitable for its intended use. This will be achieved by voluntary action or by the service of remediation notices.
