From 1 April 2009, Cheshire West and Chester Council is the new Council replacing Chester City Council, Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council, Vale Royal Borough Council and the western part of Cheshire County Council. The pages and documents through this website may contain branding and information relevant to the old councils, but are being made available because they are still relevant to our customers. We are continuing to update all materials on the Cheshire West and Chester website and aim to remove all references to the old Councils by the end of the year (2009).

Fantastic Tarporley is one of UK's top ten villages

Vale Royal village chosen for Channel Five programme

06/05/2008

TarporleyThe beautiful rural village of Tarporley will feature in a six-part prime time series for Five called The Property List. The programme will be broadcast on Thursday 12 June at 8pm on Five.

In each hour-long show the programme counts down ten dream locations on a theme - great places to live by the coast, fantastic villages, homes in beautifully scenic locations, how to get the most for your money and where to put up your dream self-build home.

Tarporley was been named as one of the top ten 'fantastic villages' and the programme's film crew went down to meet local people and talk to some of the businesses in the village.

The creators of the programme say that the locations were selected after undertaking a huge research process. A spokesperson for Shiver, the production company making the series, said: "The order of our countdown is based on expert opinion plus hard facts and figures - including official stats on house price growth, housing availability, crime levels, employment prospects, school league tables - in fact, everything right down to health prospects and clean air.

"Our locations will all be in Britain. We believe you don't have to go to France, Spain or Portugal to find a bit of property heaven - our show will have something for everyone, no matter where they live in Britain."

Cllr Gill Fairhurst, Deputy Mayor of Vale Royal and one of the councillors for the Tarporley and Oulton Ward and, commented: "Tarporley is a delightful place to live, work and visit and all the locals certainly think it's the best village in Britain."

Local businessman Charles Hardy, owner of The Fire Station Chocolate Shop, was interviewed by the film crew. He said: "It's the strong sense of community spirit that makes Tarporley such a wonderful village.

"Tarporley is the sort of village that has retained all the positive qualities of times gone by. People take the time to get to know each other, talk with each as they pass on the street and look after each other."
