Putting Customers First
The Planning and Building Control Service is one of the principal regulatory services of the Council. Its purpose is to ensure that all developments are of a high quality and contribute positively to the environment.

Principal areas of responsibility are:

Planning Control

  • The processing of all applications for planning permission, listed building consents and development within conservation areas.
  • Taking appropriate action including enforcement where unauthorised development has occurred.
  • The administration of Tree Preservation Orders, requests to fell, lop trees, landscaping advice on planning applications and other tree related issues.

Building Control
The processing of all applications for approval under the Building Regulations and associated legislation. Administering legislation concerning dangerous buildings, demolitions, street naming and numbering and safety at sports grounds.

The group is also responsible for grant aided schemes to improve access and facilities to new and existing buildings for persons with disabilities. It also provides support advice and expertise to other Directorates as part of the corporate policy objectives of the Council. The service welcomes any comments and feedback on the contents of the web site/page and any suggestions for improvements to the service we provide.
