| From 1 April 2009, Cheshire West and Chester Council is the new Council replacing Chester City Council, Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council, Vale Royal Borough Council and the western part of Cheshire County Council. The pages and documents through this website may contain branding and information relevant to the old councils, but are being made available because they are still relevant to our customers. We are continuing to update all materials on the Cheshire West and Chester website and aim to remove all references to the old Councils by the end of the year (2009). |
Crossley Hospital Development
The Site
The former Crossley Hospital East comprises a group of former hospital and ancillary buildings within an extensive wooded site to the south of Frodsham, within the Borough of Vale Royal.
The site is in the ownership of the Crown Estate and has been vacant for approximately 12 years. A development brief has been prepared to establish the planning principles involved in the development of the site and to ensure that any important natural features and recreational land on the site are safeguarded. It expands upon the policies contained in the Vale Royal Borough Local Plan First Review as amended by the First Review Alteration to provide more detailed guidance on how the Council will expect the site to be developed.
Objectives of Vale Royal Borough Council
The main objectives of the Council are to bring the former hospital buildings (Grade II Listed Buildings) back into beneficial use. The Council's approach reflects the Vale Royal Community Plan priorities to conserve and enhance our natural and historic landscapes and secure the sensitive conversion of existing buildings. Any proposals for enabling new development to support the economic and viable use of the complex of buildings will require comprehensive and detailed justification. The brief seeks to establish a
workable and realistic framework within which to promote development.
The development brief will be adopted as Supplementary Guidance by Vale Royal Borough Council and will be used to assist in the determination of planning applications for the site.
