Welcome to Northwich

Northwich is serviced by excellent river, rail and road links and Manchester Airport lies just a few minutes drive to the north. The M6 and M56 motorways deliver you to points just outside Northwich and a drive around the delightful Cheshire countryside immediately outside the town can only add to the pleasure of those living, working or visiting the area.

Northwich is one of the three "wiches" of Cheshire. These may have no connections with another kind of "witches" but the distinctive timbered style of many of the town centre buildings is certainly "bewitching" in its appeal.

The town is built on salt and certainly the friendly local people one encounters in the Town Centre could be described as the “salt of the earth”.

The Romans pumped brine to the surface two thousand years ago and since the seventeenth century the mining of rock salt has been the town’s main industry. This resulted in constant subsidence necessitating the construction of Tudor style, wooden frame buildings that could be jacked-up or moved, when problems occurred. This in turn has had the effect of making an attractive asset out of a unique industrialised product.

Beneath the timbered facades of the Town Centre shops you will find the familiar names of most of the major multiples liberally interspersed with the distinctive logos of many independent specialist retailers. Bratt's Department Store on Witton Street is a must and additionally offers an excellent restaurant, a preferred venue for most discerning locals.

Northwich also has an excellent market where you will be amazed at the wide range of goods on offer and all at highly competitive prices. In view of Northwich's position as an important shopping centre, such well-known names as Marks & Spencer and Boots have attractive units in town. In addition most of the major supermarket groups, including Aldi, Sainsburys and Tesco have large modern units located in Northwich. In short Northwich is a "must" for both the regular and the occasional shopper.

Among the shops in the town centre you will find a wide selection of cafes, restaurants, pubs and clubs to suit every taste.

Northwich Town Centre has facilities that would be the envy of many much larger towns, it offers a warm welcome to visitors and rightly deserves and receives the support of people resident in the surrounding area.
