Vale Royal Borough Council would like to remind residents that a new concessionary bus pass scheme is to be introduced in April 2008, providing free off-peak bus travel across England for people who are aged 60 and over or who have a disability.

Permanent residents of the borough already holding a bus pass and any new applicants will need to apply now for the new pass by calling into one of the main Council offices, and should bring proof of age and residence together with a good quality passport size photograph.

Alternatively, application forms can be requested by telephone 01606 867928, or by email concessionarytravel@valeroyal.gov.uk. Forms are also available on the concessionary travel page.

Councillor Ralph Oultram, Lead Councillor for Engaging Communities, is urging those eligible to apply as soon as possible. He said: "Anyone who has not yet applied for their bus pass needs to do so quickly to guarantee they receive one before April next year."

He added: "The bus pass scheme has proved to be extremely worthwhile and has made a real difference to the lives of many elderly and disabled people across the borough who rely on their local bus services."
