From 1 April 2009, Cheshire West and Chester Council is the new Council replacing Chester City Council, Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council, Vale Royal Borough Council and the western part of Cheshire County Council. The pages and documents through this website may contain branding and information relevant to the old councils, but are being made available because they are still relevant to our customers. We are continuing to update all materials on the Cheshire West and Chester website and aim to remove all references to the old Councils by the end of the year (2009).

More Recycling
Since kerbside recycling was introduced in 2003 the people of Vale Royal have changed their attitude towards rubbish. The Council provides all residents with a combined service for refuse and recycling, with them being collected on the same day but on different weeks.

Before the scheme began the "lure of the bin" was simply too strong for many people and over 85% of the rubbish we created went to landfill. The combined service has encouraged people to think about the waste they produce and how they can reduce it through recycling and waste minimisation.

As a result of this change in thinking and the hard work of everybody in Vale Royal the tale of waste is now a very different story.

Landfill Waste Halved
The amount of waste we send to landfill has more than halved since 2003 with 46% of our rubbish now being recycled. This huge change has resulted in Vale Royal becoming the best recycling authority in Cheshire and one of the best in the UK.
