| From 1 April 2009, Cheshire West and Chester Council is the new Council replacing Chester City Council, Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council, Vale Royal Borough Council and the western part of Cheshire County Council. The pages and documents through this website may contain branding and information relevant to the old councils, but are being made available because they are still relevant to our customers. We are continuing to update all materials on the Cheshire West and Chester website and aim to remove all references to the old Councils by the end of the year (2009). |
Accessibility, Equality and Diversity
Welcome to the equality and diversity section of Vale Royal Borough Council's website. The aim of this section is to give you quick access to key information about the Council's equality work, which will create opportunities for everyone in the borough to have their voices heard, particularly potentially excluded groups.
Vale Royal Borough Council wishes to play its part in helping develop Vale Royal as a cohesive community in which difference is valued and celebrated. It is working towards a just society, free from discrimination and harassment, by embedding its commitment to equality and diversity in all its policies, procedures, practices and external relationships.
Building upon the Council's Vision "Vale Royal – a great place to be", the Council reviewed its Equal Opportunities Policy and approved a new Equality and Diversity Policy in July 2004.
The policy will help the Council deliver its mission statement: "To promote Vale Royal as a great place in which to live, work and visit by tackling disadvantage, aiming for total accessibility, encouraging economic growth and achieving high performance as an organisation by working in partnership."
Civil Partnerships
The Civil Partnerships Act came into force on 5 December 2005. This allows same sex couples to have legal recognition of their partnership. This means that Civil Partners will enjoy equal treatment in a wide range of legal matters with married couples including: Tax, Benefits, Most State and Occupational Pension Benefits, Income related benefits, credits, child support, tenancy, immigration and much more.

Equality in Regeneration
The Commission for Racial Equality are asking for people who are involved in or affected by regeneration to contribute to the research. They are specifically interested in examples of physical regeneration projects which people feel have been successful or problematic in terms of race equality.
If you would like to provide information for this investigation, please go to the Commission for Racial Equality website. For anyone who does not have access to the Internet, please contact Angela Doe on 01606 867545.
